I was challenged by some reading this evening. I'm reading Erwin McManus' book "Wide Awake". I was also reading my every Tuesday sales caffeine fix from Jeffrey Gitomer. Both reading strangely connected with each other. Gitomer suggested that "after" is a very self-defeating word. We convince ourselves that our lives will be better after something... after we get a better job, after we make more money, after we start a family, after the kids move out... or whatever. However, happiness is a choice ... the "after" mentality robs us of the present and guides us to wait without taking any action ... yet happiness is now! In McManus' book the suggestion is made that many of us have that little bit of sadness the greets us every morning when we awaken. We were certain this was the life we always wanted ... a life to kill for ... yet that life is killing you. That little bit of sadness... maybe it's there because you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing. Maybe you're not living the life you're supposed to be living. Your dreams are only real while you're sleeping... you're not dreaming wide awake.
So if you're out working today - or you're just hanging out today - or you're taking care of kids today - or you're travelling today... choose happiness... awaken the hero within... NOW... not "after" something!
My prayer this evening is that you could have a sense of awe that your life could be extraordinary... that your career could be extraordinary... that your marriage could be extraordinary... that your parenting could be extraordinary... NOW!
